Karel de Rooij (born July 18, 1946 in The Hague ) is a Dutch musician, cabaret artist and cabaret artist.

De Rooij was already on stage at the age of five. From the age of eight he had violin lessons with Eugene Buziau . He attended the Haagse Frije School and majored in trombone at the Conservatory. He also took pan flute lessons from Nicolai Pîrvu and Hans Minnaert .

At Tom Manders he met Peter de Jong in 1967 , with whom he founded the duo Mini & Maxi . In the 1970s, the duo developed their own style, a mixture of clowning, cabaret and musical theater. After appearances and a. With Robert Paul and Ted de Braak followed in 1984 the first own theater program under the title Sprakelos , which was successfully performed for seven seasons at home and abroad (especially in German-speaking countries, but also in Russia and Taiwan).

After the duo broke up in 2003 due to de Jong's health problems, de Rooij founded the group De Wereldband (with Oene van Geel , Willem van Baarsen , Rogier Bosman , Roderick Krauss , Sanne van Delft and Wim Lammen , all of whom perform as multi-instrumentalists). The group has toured the Netherlands so far with the De Wereldband and Lekker warm programs .
