Roderick Krauss

Roderick Krauss (born February 20, 1970 ) is a Dutch violist and violinist (also in the field of jazz ).

Krauss started playing the violin and viola at the age of nine. He studied at various conservatories with Ron Ephrat , Vladimir Mendelssohn and Prunella Pacey and attended master classes with Nobuko Imaï , Milan Scampa and the Altenberg Trio . He completed his training as a performing musician in 1996 at the Utrecht School of Music cum laude .

During his studies, Krauss played in the Hilversum radio orchestra. From 1995 to 2000 he was principal violist in Emmy Verhey's string orchestra . In 1997 he toured the Netherlands with Carel Kraayenhof's Sextetto Canyenque and the L'Arte des Tango program and accompanied the cellist Yo-Yo Ma .

In the following years he took part in several dance theater productions, such as Het Goud van Xian with the Internationaal Danstheater (1998) and Wie is er bang voor… (2003). Between 2002 and 2004 he toured with the jazz formation Big Bizar Habit (with Jasper Blom , Michael Vatcher and others), during which time he performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Strasburg International Festival.

Recently, Krauss has been working on a project with the singer Wende Snijders and the director Ruut Weissman . He also performed with Mathilde Santing and Willy Caron, among others . He is a member of the Haags Chamber Ensemble and the Wereldband group under the direction of Karel de Rooij , with whose program Lekker Warm he is touring the Netherlands.
