Wende Snijders , stage name Wende , (born October 10, 1978 in Beckenham , London ) is a Dutch chanson singer and actress .

Life

Wende Snijders spent her childhood in Indonesia and Guinea-Bissau , where she attended French school. She then moved to the Netherlands, where she went to school in Zeist in the province of Utrecht and then studied at the Amsterdam Academie voor Kleinkunst with a focus on French chanson (graduated in 2002). In 2001 she won first prize and the audience prize at the Concours de la Chanson in Amsterdam, organized by the Alliance française (the equivalent of the Goethe-Institut in Germany). Her debut album Quand tu dors received an Edison Prize in 2005 in the chanson / cabaret category. In the same year she won the BAT Prize (as a "new theater talent") and the Zonta Prize . In 2006 her DVD Au suivant received an Edison (National Music DVD category). For her second album La fille noyée from 2006 she received an Edison Jazz Award in the world music category . In addition to French (including songs by Jacques Brel ), she also sings Dutch there, e. B. Alleen de wind weet by Huub van der Lubbe , as well as own songs. In 2007 she sang with Jenny Arean in the theater project Het Verschil , of which a CD was also released ( De Liedjes uit Het Verschil ).

In 2015 she took on a role in the film The Deceived Woman .
