Damian Luca

Damian Luca (born July 18, 1936 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian musician .

life and career

Luca was born into a family of musicians. On the initiative of his uncle Fănică Luca , Damian was accepted into the pan flute class at the leading music school in Bucharest at the age of 13. Fănică Luca is probably the most famous pan flute player in his country and the teacher of the best pan flutists of our time. Damian Luca finished his studies at the Musiklyzeum as the best student in his class. Then he was immediately engaged by the most outstanding folklore ensemble in Romania, the Barbu Lautaru. With this group he has participated in numerous festivals in the neighboring countries of Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland and the Czech Republic. He was awarded four medals at the Festival International de la Jeunesse.

The artist has made music with the same ensemble at gala events in Austria, Finland and the Federal Republic of Germany. Among the highlights of his career are the numerous appearances at the Paris Olympia in 1956. During this time there were also various TV appearances in the Seine city, followed by TV recordings in the BBC in London. With La Rhapsodie Roumaine , another Romanian folklore ensemble of international renown, Damian Luca played at numerous gala events in the United States. This resulted in an invitation to the popular Ed Sullivan Show . His appearances in Belgium, among others at the Opera de Bruxelles, Holland, Germany, France, Austria and Denmark, as well as further appearances in the USA and Canada have contributed to the worldwide popularity of this pan flute virtuoso.

At the invitation of the United States Department of Culture, Damian Luca taught a class of over 20 students at the University of Washington, Seattle. Recordings in various European countries as well as in Japan have made this master of the pan flute known to a wide audience.
