In 2000, the Westwerk project opened St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna for the first time for the exhibition of a contemporary artist. His sculptures , paintings and formations combined with the architecture of the cathedral to a discussion about continuity and breaks in history.

A recurring central element in Carnival's work is the creation of his works of art in the midst of his audience. Under the title 12 days, 12 nights , Fasching lived and worked seven times between 1987 and 2006, this period of time, which everyone can observe and is always ready to talk to in galleries around the world. During this time he did not leave his place of work once, since the twelve deeds of Heracles were the model for this project. Based on the performance of the ancient hero, Fasching always created twelve paintings, the themes of which were inspired by the conversations with the visitors to the actions. The millennia-old information of the myth was thus related to the 24-hour information of the respective day. For each of the seven stations [Vienna (1987), Amsterdam (1990), Cologne (1991), Zurich (1992), Jerusalem (1994), New York (1997) and finally again Vienna (2006)] a separate sound was composed, which could be heard for 288 hours in the respective gallery.
