The United Nations Trusteeship Council ( English United Nations Trusteeship Council ) is a currently inactive principal organ of the United Nations . It was founded on March 26, 1947 and was originally intended (according to Article 87 of the UN Charter ) to cover the colonial possessions of Italy and the Japanese Empire as well as the former colonies and parts of the German Empire and parts of the German Empire, which were converted into League of Nations mandates after the First World War Manage Ottoman Empire .
However, after the last trust territory ( Palau on October 1, 1994) was given independence , the Board of Trustees suspended its work on November 1, 1994. Since the end of 1975 it has officially only consisted of the five veto powers of the People's Republic of China , France , the Russian Federation , the United Kingdom and the United States .
Then there were ideas to give the council new tasks, e.g. B. with the administration of collapsed states, which has not yet happened.
