Heinrich Giller
Heinrich Giller (born July 19, 1701 in St. Gallen ; † July 18, 1764 in Herrnhut ) was a Swiss merchant and member of the Moravian Brethren .
Life
Heinrich Giller was the son of pastor Sebastian Giller, a Huguenot who had fled from Montpellier , and his wife Katarina (née Reynard).
From 1716 he received a commercial training in Lyon and then worked as a businessman.
In 1733 he came into contact with pietistic circles through pastor Samuel Lutz in Basel , Amsoldingen and Oberdiessbach and was accepted into the Moravian Brethren in 1740 and worked in their services in Geneva , Marienborn , Basel and Pilgerruh near Oldesloe .
With his wife's fortune in 1742, he acquired the Montmirail estate (today La Tène parish ) from Friedrich von Wattenwyl (1665–1741 ) for the congregation and was its head until 1746. To prevent the community property from causing offense, the estate was nominally sold back to Niklaus von Wattenwyl (1695–1783) in 1753 .
In the period from 1746 to 1748 he was for the Brethren in Zeist , London , Herrnhaag and Herrnhut; from 1748 to 1754 he was back in Switzerland and then back in Herrnhut.
Heinrich Giller was married to Agnes (born von den Thurn; also Im Thurn) († in Herrnhut), a daughter from a wealthy family from Schaffhausen and a student of Hieronymus Annoni , since August 5, 1741 .
