Armand James Quick

Armand James Quick (born July 18, 1894 in Theresa , Wisconsin , † January 26, 1978 ) was an American doctor and chemist.

Quick studied chemistry at the universities of Wisconsin and Illinois , where he received his PhD in 1920. He then moved to a hospital in Philadelphia and took up medicine at the university there, which he completed in 1928 at Cornell University . After various intermediate steps, he took on an assistant professorship at the Marquette Medical School (now the Medical College of Wisconsin ) in 1935 , which he held until his retirement.

Quick dealt with the physiology of blood coagulation and developed a. a. the Quick value named after him , which he introduced under the name prothrombin time; The term thromboplastin time (TPZ) is also used synonymously. He also described the anticoagulant effects of acetylsalicylic acid .
