Karl Bednarik

Karl Josef Franz Bednarik (born July 18, 1915 in Vienna ; † January 14, 2001 there ) was a Viennese painter and writer who was socially critical.

Bednarik fought both the Austro-fascism and the Hitler - fascism . Karl Bednarik learned the profession of book printer, but then worked as an electrical welder, among other things. He also formed an autodidact continue as an artist. In 1946 he had his first exhibition as a painter, and the Albertina also acquired some of his paintings. In his utopian novel Omega Fleischwolf , Bednarik describes a workforce that turns away from the struggle for social progress and is only interested in individual advantages.

Karl Bednarik was buried in the cemetery of the Simmering fire hall in Vienna (Department MR, Group 76, No. 5). Since February 2006 there is a Karl-Bednarik-Gasse in the 22nd district of Vienna .

Bednarik's estate is in the literary archive of the Austrian National Library . Significant parts of Karl Bednarik's artistic estate were donated to the MUSA Museum Startgalerie Artothek in 2016/17 as a result of a donation from the family . Bednarik has been a member of the Libertas Lodge since 1964 , as a founding member of the Libertas Gemina Lodge since 1965 and an affiliated member of the Zu den 3 Lichters Lodge from 1991 .
