Otto Schmitz (politician, 1883)

Otto Schmitz (born March 5, 1883 in Steele , † July 18, 1942 in Essen ) was a German administrative lawyer and politician.

Life

After studying law with a doctorate, Otto Schmitz went into local government and in 1912 became in-house counsel for the Recklinghausen district . His election as first mayor of the city of Bocholt was on November 16, 1920. For the 700th anniversary of the city on June 10, 1922, he received the right to use the title of mayor . When he took office, he campaigned for Bocholt's independence ( freedom from the district ). On November 1, 1923, the city of Bocholt became a district and retained this status until December 31, 1974.

On October 31, 1933, Otto Schmitz was retired due to the law to restore the civil service . He moved to his hometown Essen and established himself as a lawyer.
