Imperial Count Rambold XIII. by Collalto 1625

Rambold XIII. Count von Collalto (born September 21 (?) 1579 (possibly also 1575) in Mantua ; † November 18, 1630 in Chur ) was imperial president of the court war council and field marshal from the house of Collalto .

biography

Coming from an old family of the Collalto San Salvatore , native to Friuli and documented as early as the 10th century in the Trevisan region , he was the son of the Venetian generalissimo Anton IV.

Exiled from Venice , he entered the imperial service and, soon becoming a colonel, was seconded by Ferdinand II to the Hungarian Diet in Neusohl in 1620 , where he vigorously opposed Gábor Bethlen .

In 1623 Collalto bought several confiscated lordships in Moravia . He bought Pirnitz for 110,000 thalers and Deutsch Rudoletz for 68,000 Moravian guilders . After serving as envoy in Rome and Madrid , he fought under Tilly on the Rhine and Main in 1623 and became President of the Court War Council in Vienna in 1624 . Appointed Field Marshal and Imperial Principal Commissioner in 1625 , he commanded the army in the War of the Mantuan Succession against Karl von Nevers . He did not attend personally because of an illness during the storming of Mantua on July 18, 1630.

Accused of favoring the Venetians , he died in Chur in mid-November 1630 when he wanted to travel back to Vienna to defend himself.

The extensive goods belonging to the house in Moravia (such as Pirnitz , Deutsch Rudoletz , Czerna, etc.), which were combined into a Fideikommiss , fell to a younger line at the end of the 18th century.
