Pierre Alphonse Laurent
Pierre Alphonse Laurent (born July 18, 1813 in Paris ; † September 2, 1854 there ) was a French mathematician .
Laurent worked as an engineer in the French army on the expansion of the port of Le Havre . His only known mathematical work was published only after his death, although Augustin Louis Cauchy reported on its content in the French Academy as early as 1843. In this work were converging studies on named after Laurent Laurent series . The Laurent polynomials studied in algebra are also named after him because of the obvious analogy to the Laurent series.
Pierre Alphonse Laurent should not be confused with other French mathematicians of the time, Hermann Laurent (1841–1908) and Pierre Laurent Wantzel (1814–1848).
