Semjon Sergejewitsch Antonow ( Russian Семён Серге́евич Анто́нов , English transcription Semyon Antonov ; born July 18, 1989 in Nizhnevartovsk , Khanty and Mansi Autonomous Okrug , Russian SFSR , USSR ) is a Russian basketball player . The 2.02 m Power Forward has played for BK Nizhny Novgorod in the Russian PBL and VTB-UL since 2010 . He has been part of the Russian national team since the 2011 European Championship .
Club career
Antonov's professional career began in the club of his youth in the team of Avtodor Saratov in Superliga B. After Avtodor's relegation, he switched to league competitor TGU Basket to Tambov. At the end of the season this club was dissolved. So Antonov switched to Nizhny Novgorod, who had just been promoted to the PBL. With Nizhny Novgorod Antonov first played in the PBL and in the FIBA EuroChallenge . From the 2011/12 season the VTB United League was added. The quarter-finals in PBL 2011 and the second round in VTB 2012 can be described as the greatest successes of this time. In the 2010/11 season Novgorod was in the final of the rather insignificant Russian Cup, which was lost to BK Spartak Saint Petersburg . The most successful season in the club was for Antonov the 2013/14 season when he reached the final of the VTB United League with Novgorod and thus the right to start the Euroleague for the next season.
National team
After Antonov was used in the U20 European Championship in 2009, he was appointed to the squad of the Russian national team for the 2011 European Championship . Used as a substitute player, Antonov was bronze medalist with the team. Antonov also achieved the same placement at the 2012 Olympic Games . Again, he could not get over the status of a reserve player. Antonov took part with the national team in the 2013 and 2015 European basketball championships .
