Robert Besta

Robert Besta (born July 18, 1978 in Świętochłowice , Upper Silesia , Poland ) is a German actor and director.

Life

Family and education

Robert Besta was born in Schwientochlowitz near Kattowitz in Upper Silesia. He grew up with Polish as his mother tongue. He still speaks the language fluently today. In 1986 he came to Germany with his family; the family moved to Constance . He played the violin in the school orchestra and appeared as an actor in the youth club of the Stadttheater Konstanz . After graduating from high school in 1999, he completed his community service in geriatric care .

From 2001 to 2005 he completed his acting studies at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin , which he graduated in 2005 with a diploma. During his student days he already played theater in Berlin. He appeared at the Deutsches Theater Berlin in Death of a Salesman (choir; director: Dimiter Gotscheff ) and in the roles of The Peacock / Mike, the Epigone in The Birds (director: Christian Weise ). He also had engagements at the Maxim Gorki Theater , Hebbel am Ufer and in 2003 at the BAT studio theater of the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts. There he played Agamemnon in the Orestie (director: Agnes Hansch ).

Engagements at the theater

From the 2005/06 season until 2014 he was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe . Besta headed the youth theater club of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe from 2005 to 2013.

Stage roles at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe were initially a. a. Aumerle in Richard II. (2005; directed by Thomas Schulte-Michels ), Graf von Stein in Das Käthchen von Heilbronn (2005; directed by Crescentia Dünßer ), Orest in Elektra von Sophokles (2006; directed by Peter Wittenberg ), Wang in Der Gute Mensch von Sezuan (2006; directed by Esther Hattenbach ), Edmund Tyrone in one long day's journey into the night (2007; directed by Donald Berkenhoff ), Mortimer in Maria Stuart (directed by Boris von Poser ), choir leader in The Birds (2007 ; Director: Thomas Schulte-Michels), Duke Orsino in Was ihr wollt (2007; Director: Peter Wittenberg), the title role in Der Revisor (2008; Director: Thomas Schulte-Michels), Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet (2008; Director: Alexander Charim ).

In 2007 he received the Karlsruhe theater prize “Golden Fan” from the Karlsruhe art and theater community, which is awarded annually to an actor engaged at the Karlsruhe State Theater in the category “Best Young Actor”. Besta has been working as a freelance actor since 2014. However, he continues to appear as a guest at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.

Since the 2015/16 season he has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Pforzheim Theater . So far he has played there a. a. Lieutenant Cabinet in West Side Story (2015), theater director Dowasz in To Be or Not to Be (2015), Mackie Messer in Brecht / Weill's Die Dreigroschenoper (2015), Jerry / Daphne in the musical Sugar - Some Like It Hot by Jule Styne (2016) , Hamlet in the comedy Rosenkrantz and Güldenstern are dead by Tom Stoppard (2016) and the title role in Shakespeare's Hamlet (2016).

In the 2018/19 season Besta worked at the Alten Schauspielhaus in Stuttgart. He made his debut there as Robert Dudley in Maria Stuart (2018; director: Martin Schulze), and played the role of Alain Reille in Der Gott des Gemetzels (2019; director: Folke Braband ). In the same house he appeared as Konrad Baumgarten in Schiller's Wilhelm Tell (2019; director: Klaus Hemmerle ) in the 2019/20 season .

Movie and TV

Robert Besta can be seen in various film and television roles since 2003. Often he was committed to the role of the villain. At the beginning of his film career, Besta took part in university films at the HFF Potsdam and in short films .

In 2006 he played a supporting role as Lulu's mute suitor, Mr. Hunidei, in the television film Lulu with Jessica Schwarz in the title role. In the ARD television series Heiter bis tödlich: Fuchs und Gans (2012) he had an episode role as the Polish craftsman Lukasz Kwieczin. In the fairy tale film The Devil with the Three Golden Hairs (2013) he was the cunning, rebellious count in the scene in the forest. In the German-Austrian television film Die Holzbaronin (2013) he played the Russian forced laborer Pawel, who brutally raped Hetty Seitz ( Catherine Flemming ) and was shot after the incident was reported.
