Die Holzbaronin is a German-Austrian television film from 2012. Christine Neubauer and Henriette Confurius play the leading role of a Black Forest timber industrialist who has to assert itself in the first half of the 20th century against the domination of men and economic difficulties. Annette Hess wrote the screenplay based on motifs from the novel Die Holzbarone by Casimir Katz . Marcus O. Rosenmüller directed. After a screening at the Filmschau Baden-Württemberg on December 1, 2012, the film, originally planned as a two-parter, was first broadcast in one piece on February 26, 2013 on ZDF .

When Elly Brauer, née Seitz, was about to be appointed CEO of the Gernsbach timber company Seitz AG in 1953 , Commissioner Fröbe arrested her. Her son Hans had accused her of shooting her husband Alfred, who allegedly died in a bombing raid during World War II. During the interrogation at the Karlsruhe police headquarters, Elly tells the story of her difficult and difficult ascent. It turns out that the violent Alfred, whom she married for economic reasons, died in a tussle with Josef Meder, Elly's childhood sweetheart and Hans' actual father.

The first broadcast on ZDF on February 26, 2013 was followed by 7.35 million viewers. With a market share of 24.6 percent, Die Holzbaronin was by far the most watched program of the day on German television. 1.10 million 14 to 49 year old viewers saw the film, which corresponds to a market share in the age group of 9.8 percent.

Awards

At the Banff World Media Festival 2014, Die Holzbaronin won the Rockie Award for best film in the “Made for TV-Movie” category. At the Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo 2013, the film was nominated in the categories of “Best Multipart” and “Best Actress” ( Christine Neubauer ).
