Joseph Massolle
Joseph Massolle (born March 24, 1889 in Bielefeld , † April 2, 1957 in Berlin ) was a German sound engineer for film sound technology .
Life
The trained toolmaker Massolle formed as a self-taught for engineering . From 1907 to 1918 he served in the Imperial Navy, among other things as a radio telegraph. Then he came to Berlin. Here he became a co-founder of the sound film in 1921/22 . On September 17, 1922, the inventors Joseph Benedict Engl , Hans Vogt and Joseph Massolle gave their first demonstrations using the optical sound system in the Alhambra light show on Kurfürstendamm . Massolle later went to the Ufa-Filmgesellschaft and was responsible for the sound engineering. He held this office until 1945.
He is buried in the In den Kisseln cemetery. His grave was dedicated to the city of Berlin from 1994 to 2015 .
