Georg Abesser

Georg Karl Wilhelm Abesser (born August 7, 1889 in Schwammelwitz , Neisse district ; † August 3, 1977 in Itzehoe ) was a German medical officer , last doctor general in World War II .

Military career

Georg Abesser joined the Prussian Army in April 1908 and was promoted to assistant doctor on August 5, 1914 after the outbreak of the First World War . In 1914 he received his doctorate at the Royal Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin with the thesis The surgical treatment of rectal cancer . Further promotions took place during the war. On September 3, 1916 as senior physician and on March 23, 1920 as medical officer . In 1920 he resigned from active employment and was not accepted into the Reichswehr .

On April 1, 1935, he joined the newly established Wehrmacht with the rank of senior staff doctor . Just one year later, on October 1, he was promoted to chief physician . From 1938 to February 1, 1940 he was a division doctor of the 30th Infantry Division and at the same time led the medical department 30 (Lübeck) of the 30th Infantry Division as a commander until August 26, 1939. With the division he took part in the attack on Poland , but was transferred shortly before the western campaign . In his use as corps doctor of the XXXIX. Panzer Corps from February 1940 to June 25, 1943, he was promoted to doctor general in July 1942. This was followed by a transfer to the Führerreserve until September 5, 1944. He was then on the staff of the Deputy General Command of the X Army Corps . At the end of April 1945 Abesser was released from the Wehrmacht.

Georg Abesser was a member of the German Tropical Medicine Society in Hamburg.
