Reinhold Schmid

Reinhold Schmid (born November 19, 1902 in Berndorf , Lower Austria; † October 17, 1980 in Vienna ) was an Austrian choir director, composer and teacher.

Schmid was a choirboy in Klosterneuburg. He completed a music degree at the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde (today University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna ), received his doctorate in 1929 and taught there from 1939. He was appointed full professor in 1966 and retired in 1973. From 1940 to 1945 he was choir master of the Wiener Singverein and the Wiener Schubertbund .

In 1959 Schmid was awarded the Austrian State Prize for Music and in 1966 the Appreciation Prize for Music of the State of Lower Austria.
