Charles III (Monaco)
Charles III (actually Charles Grimaldi , * December 8, 1818 , † September 10, 1889 ) was the ruling prince of Monaco from 1856 until his death .
Life
Charles Grimaldi was born on December 8th to Florestan I of Monaco and his wife Maria Caroline Gibert de Lametz . He married Antoinette de Mérode-Westerloo on September 28, 1846 , who gave him their son Albert . After the death of his father, Charles ascended the throne of Monaco in 1856. He died on September 10, 1889, his son Albert I succeeded him on the throne.
During his reign, the casino achieved its fame , which continues to this day. The district of Monte Carlo , in which the casino is located, is named after Charles III. named.
Charles was invested in the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem through Giuseppe Valerga , the Patriarch of Jerusalem .
