Jacob Mangers
Jacob Mangers SM (French Jacques Mangers ) (born March 18, 1889 in Stolzemburg , Luxembourg ; † January 7, 1972 ) was the Shepherd of the Catholic Church in Norway from 1932 to 1964.
Life
After joining the Marist Fathers , Mangers studied in their congregational school in Differt (Belgium). He later studied philosophy in Paris and theology in Rome . He received a doctorate in theology in 1920. Jacob Mangers was ordained a priest in Rome on April 3, 1920. He was sent to Norway in 1925 , where he first became an assistant priest in the parish of St. Paul in Bergen . He prepared the establishment of a parish in Haugesund (St. Josef) and was transferred there on January 1, 1926. In 1931 he was transferred to Stavanger .
In 1932 he was appointed vicar apostolic in Oslo and on August 24 of the same year he was ordained bishop as titular bishop of Selja in the cathedral of Luxembourg . Mangers was 1953, with the elevation of the vicariate to the diocese of Oslo by Pius XII. , appointed its first Catholic bishop after the Reformation. Mangers retired on December 13, 1964, approved by Pope Paul VI. with simultaneous appointment as titular bishop of Afufenia . He spent his last years in the Zitha monastery in Luxembourg. He was buried in his parents' grave in Bissen .
