Titular diocese of Selja
Selja is a titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church .
It goes back to an earlier bishopric named after the Norwegian Atlantic island of Selja . The island is considered the exile of the Irish Sunniva von Selje , who fled from her forced marriage in the 10th century and died a martyr's death on the island. Sunniva von Selje is the patron saint of the Norwegian diocese of Bjørgvin and of all of western Norway. Benedictines built a monastery on the island at the beginning of the 12th century.
