George Hively

George Hively (born September 6, 1889 in Springfield , Missouri , † March 2, 1950 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film editor and screenwriter .

Life

George Hively began his film career in 1917 as a screenwriter for short films for Universal Film Manufacturing, which later became Universal Pictures . In ten years, Hively wrote over 80 scripts.

In 1927 he came to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer , where he switched to film editing . For MGM and RKO Pictures he worked on over 60 films as an editor. In 1936, Hively was nominated for an Oscar for Best Editing for The Traitor . Other well-known works include Leopards You Don't Kiss (1938), Restless Love (1938), Abe Lincoln in Illinois (1940) and Dangerous Honeymoons (1943).

In 1945 he retired from the film business. He died five years later, on March 2, 1950. His son of the same name (1933-2006) was also active as an editor.
