Bruno Bandini (musician)

Bruno Bandini (* 1889 in Faenza , † 1969 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine violist, conductor and music teacher of Italian origin.

Bandini came to Argentina as a child with his parents, who settled in Buenos Aires. He studied at the Instituto Musical Santa Cecilia, with Ercole Galvani , Cataneo and G. Troiani and received the diploma as professor for viola in 1905. In the same year he started teaching at the Instituto Musical.

In 1909 he gave a solo concert in the Salon of the Unione Operai Italiani , which is considered the first concert by a violist in Buenos Aires. He performed with various regional orchestras and worked under the direction of Arturo Toscanini , among others . The orchestra of the Teatro Colón engaged him as principal violist, and in the same capacity he became a member of the philharmonic orchestra of the Asociación del Profesorado Orquestal .

In 1914 Bandini became professor at the Instituto Nacional de Ciegos , and in 1916 at the Conservatorio de Música Thibaud-Piazzini . In 1924 he was one of the founding members of the Conservatorio Nacional de Música y Arte Escénico , to whose professors he was until his retirement; from 1930 he also taught at the Conservatorio Municipal Manuel de Falla . With José María and Juan José Castro , Manuel Almirall , and Francisco Amicarelli , he founded the Sociedad del Cuarteto in 1924 .

With the support of the Sociedad Lago di Como , Bandina founded the Orquesta Miguel Gianneo with young musicians , which he directed for several decades and with which he enabled many young composers to perform their works and young musicians the start of a solo career. In 1945 he was commissioned to found the Chamber and Symphony Orchestra of the Radio Nacional , which he developed into a respected orchestra in Argentina. His recording of the Impresiones de la Puna by Alberto Ginastera was named the best album of 1951.
