Max Amberger
Max Amberger (* 1839 in Munich ; † November 11, 1889 in Munich) was a German guitar and violin maker as well as the builder of the first concert zither in today's design with an extended scale. As a leading instrument maker of his time, Max Amberger was a purveyor to the court and received numerous international prizes, which are documented on the labels of his instruments.
The instrument maker founded his business in Munich in 1862. He completed his apprenticeship with Georg Tiefenbrunner in Munich and Anton Kiendl in Vienna . Today's concert zither was created between 1862 and 1870 in collaboration with the zither player J. Steiner. In addition to zithers, his company also made guitars and violins . After his death, his son Henry Amberger took over the company, which in turn was continued by his widow after Henry's death. In 1921 the company was taken over by Hermann Hauser (guitar maker) . In 2020 "Max Amberger" was registered as an international trademark (IR trademark) by the chairman of the board of trustees of the "Hermann Hauser Guitar Foundation", Klaus Wolfgang Wildner .
