Alfred Edward Bennett

Alfred Edward Bennett (born September 26, 1889 in Balwyn near Melbourne , Australia , † April 17, 1963 in Vaucluse near Sydney , Australia) was an Australian radio manager and theosophist .

Bennett was born on September 26, 1889 in Balwyn as the fourth of seven children of George Jesse Bennett (1850-1920) and his second wife Harriet Ann Bentley (* 1856). The father was a teacher. Attended school in Balwyn and college in Hawthorn (near Melbourne). Married Ruby Adelaide Frauenfelder on June 11, 1912 , and had two children.

In 1920 he joined the Theosophical Society Adyar and in 1926 took over the function of managing director (appointed manager) at Theosophical Broadcasting Station Pty . Ltd . who operated the theosophical radio station 2GB in Sydney . 1935 General Manager and when 2GB merged with the broadcaster 2UE in 1936, Bennett became head of the newly founded umbrella organization Broadcasting Service Association Ltd. He was also director of the radio stations 3AW Melbourne and 5DN Adelaide and from 1934 to 1936 President of the Australian Federation of Commercial Broadcasting stations (Association of Australian Commercial Broadcasting Stations ). He strongly opposed state influence on radio programming and was the "discoverer" of several popular radio presenters.
