Georg Baron Manteuffel-Szoege (born March 7, 1889 in Montreux , Switzerland ; † June 8, 1962 in Bad Godesberg ) was a German CSU politician .

Life

His parents were Georg von Manteuffel-Szoege (1862–1919) and Sophie geb. Countess von Rüdiger (1866–1949). He had two siblings, the brothers Heinrich (1893-1946) and Hans Baron Manteuffel-Szoege (1894-1919).

After graduating from high school, Manteuffel-Szoege studied history and economics at the Friedrichs University in Halle and the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg from 1909 to 1913 . He became active in the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg in 1910 and proved himself as a consenior . In 1913 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. In 1914/15 he gained his first professional experience at the Kurländischer Kreditverein. Then he was secretary of the delegation of the Courland Knighthood in Berlin until 1918 and also worked for the German cooperative system in Poznan .

After the First World War , Manteuffel-Szoege served as a volunteer in the Baltic Landwehr until 1920 . From 1921 to 1939 he devoted himself to the management of the family property in Zabłudów near Białystok . Since 1936 he has also been a lecturer in Eastern European history at the university abroad in Berlin . In 1940 he joined the Foreign Office , which he left after two years to devote himself to the family property in Zabludow.

After the Second World War , Manteuffel-Szoege came to Bavaria as a displaced person . At first he worked as a small farmer in Lower Bavaria , but from 1947 he already managed the Pappenheim estate as a trustee. In 1950 he became president of the main office for emergency aid in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe and in the same year also chairman of the German-Baltic country team . From 1954 he was in front of the Association of Country Teams. After founding the Federation of Expellees (BdV) as the new umbrella organization for all expellee associations, he was a member of the BdV Presidium from 1960 to 1961.

Baron Manteuffel-Szoege was a member of the CSU and was a member of the German Bundestag from 1953 until his death; here he emerged above all as a foreign politician.
