Whitney Eugene Thayer
Whitney Eugene Thayer (born December 11, 1838 in Mendon , Massachusetts , † June 27, 1889 in Burlington , Vermont ) was an American organist and composer.
Thayer gave his first organ concert on the occasion of the opening of the Music Hall in Boston in 1863. He studied organ composition and counterpoint with Carl August Haupt in Berlin and then worked as an organist first in Boston and later in New York City . He went on concert tours as an organ virtuoso and worked as an organ teacher and music writer.
In addition to a festival cantata and a mass , he composed numerous organ works, songs and vocal quartets.
