United States Marine Band
The United States Marine Band is a body of the United States Marine Corps and was established by law on July 11, 1798. It is the oldest surviving musical corps in United States military history . The unit is based in the Marine Barracks in Washington, DC . The orchestra consists of 130 soldiers with and without music studies.
The actual main task since 1801 has been giving concerts for the President of the United States . This is why the orchestra has been nicknamed "The President's Own".
The ensemble mainly performs at the inaugurations of the presidents of the United States , funerals with military honors , state visits to the country and the Friday Evening Parades in front of the barracks (between May and August). Around 500 concerts are given every year.
The United States Marine Chamber Orchestra (founded in 1798) is now part of the ensemble .
