Lalla Carlsen ( Haralda Petrea Christensen ; born August 17, 1889 in Svelvik , † March 23, 1967 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian actress and singer and one of the most popular revue artists in Norway.

Life

Carlsen studied singing at Kristiania's Conservatory from 1909 to 1913 and initially performed as a classical soprano. She made her professional debut in Arendal in 1914 in Emmerich Kálmán's operetta Das Herbstmanöver with the Norsk Operetta-Selskap . From 1915 to 1947 she was a member of the Chat Noir ensemble with two brief interruptions . From 1927-28 she was employed at the Casino in Copenhagen, from 1940 to 1943 at the Carl Johan Teatret in Oslo.

Her breakthrough came in 1925 with the Revue Summetonen , followed by other successful revues in the pre-war period such as Nå er'e vi som har makta (1928), Etter karnevalet ( 1930), Marsjkonkurransen (1932), Norge, våkn opp! (1934, a powerful warning of the rise of National Socialism) and Mrs. Simpson (1937). In addition, she made more than 40 recordings during this time.

As an actress she made her debut in 1927 in the silent film Den glade enke i Trangvik . In 1932 she had the lead role in the comedy film Lalla vinner . Besides the revue film Op med hodet (1932), these were her only film appearances in the prewar period. Between 1947 and 1965 she had small supporting roles in more than 20 films, most recently some radio and television appearances.

During the war at Carl Johan Teatret , Carlsen wrote melodies for many of the songs that would form the main stem of their repertoire, such as Han Jon (1941), Det sterke kjønn (1942), Ålreit (1943) and Madame Sans Gêne (1944). In 1945 she started the celebrated revue Norge i rødt, hvitt og blått in Chat Noir . From 1947 she was active at the Edderkoppen Theater . Productions like E 'hel ei, e' halv ei (1955) and Se Det! (1957).

In addition, she has now also taken on dramatic roles such as that of the mother in Eugene O'Neill's Schöne Jugend (with Gisle Straume , Rogaland Teater 1952), the Celia Peechum Brecht / Weill's Threepenny Opera or the prostitute Marthy in O'Neill's Anna Christie (Riksteatret 1953). In 1957 she appeared in Frogenerparken next to Espen Skjønberg as mother Aase in Peer Gynt . In 1949 she was awarded the Köngens fortjenstmedalje . In 1958 she became an honorary member of the Norsk Skuespillerforbund . A street was named after her in both her hometown Svelvik and Oslo. Lalla Carlsen was married to the composer and conductor Carsten M. Carlsen since 1917 .
