Karl Gaul

Karl Gaul (born February 1, 1889 in Nauborn , † January 17, 1972 in Offenbach am Main ) was a German educator and politician ( FDP ).

Life

Gaul attended the teachers' college and then entered the school service. He had been a teacher since 1910, became rector of a school in Wetzlar in 1932 and was chairman of the German teachers' association in the Koblenz district until 1933 . After the National Socialists came to power, he was transferred to Frankfurt am Main in 1933 .

After the Second World War , Gaul resumed his teaching activities, was appointed school councilor in 1945 and finally high school councilor in 1946. He was also a member of the Hessian Broadcasting Council .

Political party

Gaul was involved in politics since 1911 and joined the DDP in 1919 . In 1945 he participated in the founding of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), from which the Hessian state association of the FDP later emerged.

MP

Gaul was a member of the Hessian state parliament from 1946 to 1950 . He was a member of the German Bundestag from its first election from 1949 to 1957 and was chairman of the Bundestag committee for cultural policy. In 1949 he was directly elected in the constituency of Wetzlar with 29.8% of the vote , and in 1953 he entered parliament via the state list of the FDP Hessen.

In 1949 he was a member of the first and in 1954 of the second Federal Assembly .
