Anna Ebert

Anna Ebert (née Thurau ; born August 31, 1889 in Derben / Jerichow II district; † March 16, 1947 in Magdeburg ) was a KPD politician and a member of the Magdeburg city council.

Life

Ebert joined the KPD in 1921 and campaigned for equal rights for women and against the takeover of power by the National Socialists . Ebert belonged to the district leadership of the KPD Magdeburg-Anhalt and in 1925 took part in the founding conference of the Red Women's and Girls' Union and became its Gauleiter. In 1929 she was a delegate of the Magdeburg district at the Reich Party Congress of the KPD. From 1929 to 1933 she was a member of the Magdeburg city council. As early as 1930 she protested against § 218 .

In 1933 she was arrested by the Gestapo , transferred to the Berlin women's prison and in 1939 taken to the Ravensbrück concentration camp .

After the end of the war she became head of social welfare in the Magdeburg-Ost district and opened the first kindergarten in this urban area. Later she took over the management of the welfare office of the city of Magdeburg.

The city of Magdeburg named the Anna-Ebert-Brücke after her.
