Edward Henry Rollins

Edward Henry Rollins (born October 3, 1824 in Somersworth , New Hampshire , † July 31, 1889 on the Isles of Shoals ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ). He represented the state of New Hampshire in both houses of the US Congress .

Rollins attended public schools and private colleges in Dover and South Berwick, Maine. Then he took up a job in the commercial trade. In 1855 his political career began with the election to the New Hampshire House of Representatives , in which he also served as speaker during his tenure, which lasted until 1857 . In 1860 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives to represent New Hampshire's 2nd District . After being re-elected twice, he remained there until March 3, 1867.

That year, Rollins moved to the Senate within Congress . During his six-year tenure there, he was chairman of the Committee on Manufactures . In 1882 he failed when trying to be re-elected.

After previously serving as a secretary for the Union Pacific Railroad , Edward Rollins took over the office of President of the Boston, Concord & Montreal Railroad in 1886 , which he held until 1889. He also founded the First National Bank of Concord and the bank EH Rollins & Sons in Boston .

Rollins died in 1889 and was buried in Concord. In his honor, the part of Somersworth town in which he was born was renamed Rollinsworth .
