Kelly Ayotte
Kelly A. Ayotte (born June 27, 1968 in Nashua , New Hampshire ) is an American politician with the Republican Party . From 2011 to 2017 she represented the state of New Hampshire in the United States Senate .
Family, education and work
Kelly Ayotte comes from a French Canadian family and grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire, the daughter of Kathleen and Marc Ayotte. After finishing school, Ayotte studied political science at Pennsylvania State University , where she graduated in 1990 with a bachelor's degree. Then she gained at Villanova University in Philadelphia the Juris Doctor and worked for Sherman Horton, the judge of the Supreme Court of New Hampshire was. After completing her studies, she worked from 1994 to 1998 as a lawyer at McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton in Manchester . She then served as a state attorney and became the New Hampshire Suicide Director and Assistant Attorney General.
In 2003 she was an advisor to Governor Craig Benson and was appointed Attorney General of the State of New Hampshire in June 2004 . From June 2004 to July 2009 Ayotte was active as such and the first woman to hold this office. In that position she worked on two high-profile murders, including a police officer killer. She participated in the first death sentences in New Hampshire in more than sixty years.
Kelly Ayotte has been married to former US Air Force pilot Joe Daley since 2001 ; they have two children. She is a member of the Roman Catholic Church .
Political career
On November 5, 2010, Ayotte won the election to the US Senate in New Hampshire against the Democrat Paul Hodes after she had been supported in the election campaign by, among others, Mitt Romney , Haley Barbour and Rick Santorum . She followed on January 3, 2011 the Republican mandate holder Judd Gregg in the Senate, who had not run again. She was a member of the Armed Forces , Budget , Commerce , Homeland Security and Small Business Committees and chaired two sub-committees.
In the following election in 2016, she was defeated by the Democrat Maggie Hassan , after she had emphasized moderate positions in the election campaign and emphasized her commitment to combating the addictive substance crisis - including the initiative for a federal law against opiate addiction - but no clear position on Donald Trump's polarizing presidential election campaign at the same time had related. Ayotte holds several supervisory board mandates and is involved in civil society organizations. Positions
In general, Ayotte was on the conservative Republican line in speaking out against Obamacare health care reform , same-sex marriage and the duty to check arms buyers. She supported an amendment to the constitution calling for a balanced budget and the restrictive and controversial Arizona's immigration law (Arizona Senate Bill 1070). When it comes to environmental protection, she deviated from the party line more often, although she is skeptical of the state of knowledge about climate change .
