Gordon John Humphrey (* 9. October 1940 in Bristol , Connecticut ) is an American politician of the Republican Party of New Hampshire . He was a member of the United States Senate from 1979 to 1990 .

biography

Humphrey was born in Bristol on October 9, 1940. He attended George Washington University and the University of Maryland, College Park . He served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962 and was a professional pilot from 1964. He later joined the Republican Party and was elected to the US Senate in 1978. There he sat on the committees for foreign policy, defense and justice. In 1984 he was re-elected to the Senate, but resigned before the end of his term in December 1990 because he wanted to be elected to the New Hampshire Senate, which he succeeded. Humphrey currently lives in Concord .

Humphrey hit the media again in 2013 when he stated in an email that whistleblower Edward Snowden did the right thing. In 2016, Humphrey was one of the delegates at the presidential nomination convention for the defeated John Kasich . In August 2016, he announced that he would vote for the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton if that was necessary to prevent the Republican candidate, the “ sociopathDonald Trump .
