Efrem Forni

Efrem Cardinal Forni (born January 10, 1889 in Milan , Italy , † February 26, 1976 in Rome ) was a Vatican diplomat and cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Efrem Forni studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Milan and Rome . He received on 6 July 1913, the sacrament of Holy Orders , and then worked as a counselor and lecturer at the Archdiocesan College of Cantu and the College of Milan. From 1921 to 1926 Efrem Forni was secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Portugal , from 1928 to 1937 he was in the service of the Apostolic Nunciature in France . Pope Pius XI appointed him on November 26, 1937 titular Archbishop of Darnis and Apostolic Nuncio in Ecuador . He received the episcopal ordination through Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli , later Pope Pius XII. ; Co- consecrators were Albert Levame , titular archbishop of Chersonesus in Zechia and nuncio in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, as well as Luigi Traglia , titular archbishop of Caesarea in Palestine and vice-gentleman for the diocese of Rome . Pope Pius XII In 1953 made him head of the Apostolic Nunciature in Belgium, which was also responsible for the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg .

Pope John XXIII accepted Efrem Forni on March 19, 1962 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme in the college of cardinals . Efrem Forni participated in all sessions of the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965, as well as in the conclave of 1963 .

Efrem Forni died in Rome on February 26, 1976 and was buried in his family's crypt in Milan.
