Hermann Schievelbein
Friedrich Anton Hermann Schievelbein (born November 18, 1817 in Berlin ; † May 6, 1867 there ) was a German sculptor .
Life
Schievelbein received his first training from the landscape painter Carl Friedrich Trautmann . As a student at the Berlin Academy , he studied with the sculptor Ludwig Wilhelm Wichmann from 1835 to 1838 . After completing his studies, he worked in Saint Petersburg for three years with a short break and took part in the sculptural decoration of St. Isaac's Cathedral and the Winter Palace . Returning from Russia, he won the Grand State Prize. The scholarship associated with the prize enabled him to travel to Italy in 1843, which he broke off again in 1844 in favor of the commission for the figure on the castle bridge. In 1860 he was appointed professor at the Berlin Academy of the Arts and in 1866 a member of the Senate of the Academy. In addition to sculpting, Schievelbein was also active in the modeling of plastic jewelry in Ernst March's pottery factory in Berlin-Charlottenburg .
His oldest daughter was the painter and writer Gertrud Franke-Schievelbein .
