HRH Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales was born on January 7, 1796in Londonas the only child of the English Crown Prince Georg, Prince of Wales , and his wife Caroline von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel . Until her death she was second to the throne after her father.

In 1813 it was first promised to Wilhelm von Nassau-Orange , but broke off this engagement a year later.

In the entourage of Tsar Alexander I of Russia , Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg , who later became King of the Belgians , stayed in London in the summer of 1814 and met Charlotte Augusta.
