Together with his orchestra colleague Peter von Winter, he went to Vienna in 1780/81 on an electoral scholarship to study with Antonio Salieri . On April 1, 1789, he said goodbye in Munich and followed a call as a chamber musician in royal services to Berlin, where he was also in the König orchestraFriedrich Wilhelm II played. Even under his successor Friedrich Wilhelm III. Tausch worked in Berlin and finally founded the Conservatory of Wind Instruments there in 1805 together with other virtuosos . Among his numerous students are such famous virtuosos as Bernhard Henrik Crusell and Heinrich Joseph Baermann . In Berlin he was a member of the Masonic Lodge “Urania zur Immortlichkeit”.
Tausch's works include various concerts for his instrument, some concert symphonies, and numerous chamber music.
