Michel-François Calmelet (* 1782 in Langres ; † January 28, 1817 in Pisa ) was a French engineer .

Calmelet, son of a judge, attended the École polytechnique from 1798 and in 1800 he was accepted as a mining student. In 1802 he was sent to school in Pesey , where he mainly dealt with metallurgy . After he was appointed "Ingénieur des Mines" in 1805, in 1807 he was entrusted with the supervision of the Saar district. In 1809 and 1810, with Louis-Antoine Beaunier, under the direction of Jean Baptist Duhamel, he carried out large-scale leveling and surveying in the Saar coal basin and divided it into concession areas. Because he had done this job excellently, he was appointed "Ingénieur en Chef" in December 1810 as young as no one before him. He died on January 28, 1817 in Pisa of a lung disease.
