Franz Leopold Sunshine

Franz Leopold Sonnenschein (born July 13, 1817 in Cologne , † February 26, 1879 ) was a German chemist .

Life

He learned pharmacy , set up a small laboratory in Berlin in the 1830s and, together with a doctor, prepared other pharmacists for the state examination. At the same time he studied chemistry and completed his habilitation in 1852 as a private lecturer. He devoted himself specifically to analytical chemistry and developed a very extensive practical activity, through which he gained a very high reputation. Many technical companies owed their success mainly to him. He promoted analytical and forensic ( forensic ) chemistry through numerous scientific studies. He died on February 26, 1879 as a professor at the University of Berlin.

Works

Of his writings, the following should be emphasized: “Instructions for chemical analysis” (Berlin 1852, 3rd edition 1858); "Instructions for quantitative chemical analysis" (das. 1864); "Handbook of judicial chemistry" (2nd edition by Clafsen, das. 1881) and "Handbuch der Analytischen Chemie" (das. 1870–71, 2 vols.).
