Megumi Hayashibara ( Japanese 林 原 め ぐ み , Hayashibara Megumi ; born March 30, 1967 in Tokyo Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese voice actress (Japanese Seiyū ), singer and songwriter (here simply as Megumi in capital letters).

Life

Due to her great interest in manga and anime , Megumi Hayashibara dropped out of school prematurely and tried to work as a voice actress. At that time she was a trained nurse. At first her parents were skeptical and against her decision. But little by little they supported their daughter more and more.

Hayashibara took part in a casting by the Tokyo agency Art Vision , where over 500 applicants wanted to assert themselves as voice actors and actresses. She trained as a voice actress at the Nihon Narration Engi Kenkyūjo .

In 1986 she made her debut in the first episode of the anime Maison Ikkoku . There she dubbed a small, nameless child in a kindergarten. This was followed by other synchronous roles. In the 1990s and early 2000s it was one of the most famous seiyūs, not only in Japan, but also in the US and Europe . Since 2002 she has mainly continued her roles as Ai Haibara in Detective Conan and Musashi ( Engl . Jessie) in Pokémon . In 2006 she gave the lead role of Atsuko "Paprika" Chiba in Satoshi Kon's film Paprika .

Her career as a singer is also successful, among other things, she has sung the theme songs of many anime series. With her colleagues from Ranma ½ Kikuko Inoue, Rei Sakuma , Noriko Hidaka and Minami Takayama she formed the music group DoCo and without Minami Takayama the music group Ties .

Megumi Hayashibara is married and had a daughter in 2004.
