Johann Heinrich Philipp Seidenstücker
Johann Heinrich Philipp Seidenstücker (born August 21, 1765 in Haynrode , † May 26, 1817 in Soest ) was a German educator and headmaster.
Life
Johann Heinrich Philipp Seidenstücker was born as the son of Johann Philipp Seidenstücker, who ran an inn and a butcher's shop and was the village judge.
At the age of fourteen he went to the Latin school in Gandersheim in 1779 and then attended the Martineum in Braunschweig ; after graduation he began on February 9, 1785 to study theology and philosophy at the University of Helmstedt . At the university he heard lectures from Friedrich August Wiedeburg , who accepted him into the philological-pedagogical seminar. As early as September 29, 1785 he was employed as a teacher at the Pädagogium Helmstedt and taught Greek , Latin and Hebrew , later he moved up to the second apprenticeship as a collaborator .
On January 9, 1789 he was appointed second curator of the Helmstedt University Library and received his doctorate in philosophy on July 18, 1789 with his dissertation de excolenda triplici memoriae forma .
In 1790 he received permission to hold lectures as a private lecturer at the university and was appointed adjunct on August 2, 1791, through the endorsement of the professors of the philosophical faculty . He applied for an extraordinary professorship at the university, but his appointment was delayed due to the reforms in the country at the time, so that on July 8, 1796 he accepted the offered rectorate at the grammar school in Lippstadt. In his new office he soon got into a dispute with the local clergy because he limited the four hours of prayer to one, as well as in a dispute with the magistrate , which was continued in pamphlets; his applications in 1798 and 1802 for an open school position in Holzminden were rejected. The declining number of pupils at the grammar school meant that the school was converted into a higher citizen school for grammar school studies.
In 1805 he developed the proposal to unite the separate schools in Lippstadt into one large school and to begin French lessons before Latin lessons and to organize religious teaching without religious affiliation ; however, these proposals were rejected.
In 1810 he left Lippstadt and was introduced on October 8, 1810 as rector of the Archigymnasium in Soest . He was able to improve the salaries of teachers, found a high school library and he replaced the class system in the curriculum with the subject system. After he had refused an offer to Bremen , he received the title of school director in 1815 .
Johann Heinrich Philipp Seidenstücker was married to Sophie Auguste (* February 24, 1773 - May 12, 1851), daughter of August Wilhelm Ottmer, prior and preacher in Marienthal near Helmstedt , since August 9, 1796 . Together they had five sons and two daughters; of these are known by name:
- Wilhelm Seidenstücker (* 1797, † 1856), high school teacher in Soest, who made it possible for his four brothers to study;
- Johann Heinrich Friedrich Theodor Seidenstücker (* 1800; † 1859), Evangelical Lutheran pastor from 1825 in Ostönnen , superintendent ;
- Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Seidenstücker (* 1805; † 1873), Evangelical Lutheran pastor in Meschede , from 1836 in Borgeln and grandfather of the photographer Friedrich Seidenstücker ;
- Karl Friedrich Philipp Seidenstücker (* 1807; † 1883), vice principal of the Moers grammar school ;
