Collaborator ( latin "employees") is the historical name for a on a Latin or Gelehrtenschule acting assistant teacher or curate , later a teacher at the high school. Subordinate employees of a university were also referred to as collaborators. Typical was the entry into the school service after the end of the studies as a collaborator, after which one could possibly be promoted to sub-rector etc.

The Athenaeum in Bremen can be used as an example of a typical hierarchy of teachers , where the following teachers existed in the 17th century : Rector , Vice Rector , Sub- Rector and Collaborator. In addition, there were teachers for special disciplines such as a cantor for music lessons or a grammaticus for ancient language lessons.

The modern equivalent of Collaborators in the 19th century in Germany is the teacher at the high school.
