Matthäus Hörfarter (born September 11, 1817 in Kössen , † April 19, 1896 in Kufstein ) was a Catholic theologian and pastor in Kufstein.
Life
Matthäus Hörfarter attended the Franziskanergymnasium in Hall in Tirol . He then took philosophical courses at the University of Innsbruck and then began studying medicine at the University of Vienna. At the same time he dealt with philosophy and became a follower of Anton Günther . After attending the seminary in Salzburg, he was ordained a priest in 1843 .
In 1853 he was appointed to the newly created chair for fundamental theology and metaphysics in Salzburg. As a supporter of Günther, however, he had to leave them again and in 1859 became pastor and dean in Kufstein. Here he devoted himself increasingly to educational issues. He reformed the urban primary school system, founded a female advanced training school in 1869, the agricultural district association and the first kindergarten in Tyrol in 1870 .
