The Franziskanergymnasium Hall in Tirol is a high school with public rights in the municipality of Hall in Tirol in the state of Tirol . The Franciscan Province of Austria maintains the school . The school building is a listed building .

history

The grammar school was founded in 1573 on the initiative of the Archduchess Magdalena with Jesuits . It is the third oldest grammar school in Tyrol. With the abolition of the Jesuit order in 1773, the Franciscans took over the grammar school at the request of the city of Hall . In 1900 the new school building at Kathreinstrasse 6 was moved into. Girls have been attending school since the 1970/71 school year. From 1967 to 1980 there was a major renovation, from 2007 to 2009 a general renovation with an extension.

building

The three-storey building with a hook-shaped floor plan is designed with historicist facades in neo-baroque and neo-renaissance forms . The double column portal on the south facade is crowned by a mosaic of the city's coat of arms. The interior was radically changed in the 1960s and 1980s, with the exception of the entrance hall of the central staircase and the basic structure of the building, little of the original appearance remained. When the renovation was completed in 2009, the old building was brought back to its original state and the original historicist painting was renewed.

high school

The grammar school is run as a so-called humanistic-modern language grammar school over all eight years. In the third grade, students can choose between Latin and French and in the fifth grade between Italian and Latin.

About 45 teachers teach about 500 students in 20 classes (as of 2009).
