Simon Prem

Simon Marian Prem (baptized as Simon Prem , pseudonym Christian Ewald ; born October 27, 1853 in Niederau , Tyrol, † April 26, 1920 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian high school teacher and literary historian .

Life

The farmer's son from Wildschönau attended the Franciscan high school in Hall and then studied German and history at the University of Innsbruck . In 1882 he passed his teaching examination, in 1890 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. He taught first as a supplement and later as a professor at grammar schools in Vienna (1881–1885), Linz (1885–1887), Innsbruck (1888–1890), Bielitz (1890–1894), Marburg (1894–1899) and Graz (1899) -1911).

During this time, Simon Prem always remained connected to his homeland and dealt with the history of Tyrolean literature. From the 1880s he published biographies of contemporary poets such as Adolf Pichler , Martin Greif , Josef von Schnell and Hermann von Gilm . He also dealt with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and published a multi-volume selection of his works with a biography. He was also active as a writer and wrote short stories, poems and travel articles that appeared in newspapers and magazines.

Honors and commemorations

The communities of Wildschönau and Kufstein granted Simon Prem honorary citizenship . He was buried in a city grave of honor in Innsbruck's Westfriedhof . In 1925 a memorial for Prem was erected on the bay window of the Kellerwirt in Wildschönau- Oberau , where he liked to stop and which he described in his texts. In the Innsbruck district of Pradl , in Wörgl and in Kufstein, streets were named after him.

In 1925 the Prem-Runde was founded, a group of artists to which Thomas Riss , Heinrich von Schullern , Hugo Klein and Toni Kirchmayr belonged. This round published the Prem yearbook for Tyrolean literature and local history in 1930 and 1932 .
