Manoel Carlos de Andrade (* 1755 , † 1817 ) was a rider at the Portuguese Riding School .

Life

Manoel Carlos de Andrade was a student of one of the most famous and recognized riding masters of his time: Dom Pedro de Alcântara e Meneses, Marquis of Marialva . In his work Luz da Liberal e Nobre Arte da Cavallaria - German: The noble art of riding - he not only passed on the views and teachings of his master, but also compared them with the teachings of de la Guérinières , which he was the first to translate into Portuguese , as well as the teachings of Newcastle and Pignatelli . The work not only tries to give an overview of the equestrian art of its time, but also provides everything worth knowing about horses, from breeding, husbandry, biology, medicine to equipment and tournament organization. De Andrade wrote the most important work on Portuguese horsemanship to date .
