Giovanni Pignatelli (* around 1540 ; † around 1600 ) was riding master and successor to Federigo Griso , called Grisone, at the Neapolitan Riding School, which was founded in 1532 and was then influential in Western Europe; The curb he uses , "Pignatelle", is named after him.

His students Salomon de la Broue and Antoine de Pluvinel went different ways, the former continued the massive traction of the horse, the latter, on the other hand, demanded more attention to the horse with systematic gymnastics.
