Christian Wilhelm Kreidel

Christian Wilhelm Kreidel (born March 26, 1817 in Wiesbaden , † September 23, 1890 there ) was a German publisher and bookseller.

Kreidel came from a simple background, his father Johann Wilhelm Kreidel was the administrator of the Wiesbaden orphanage. In 1843 Christian Wilhelm Kreidel opened a bookshop in Wiesbaden. His commercial skills turned it into an important scientific publisher in the years that followed. In particular, he published the works of the scientists working in Wiesbaden, Carl Remigius Fresenius , Carl Neubauer (1830–1879), Arnold Pagenstecher , Carl Genth , Ferdinand Hueppe , Fridolin Sandberger and Karl August von Cohausen .

He used part of his fortune to support social causes. The foundation of the Kreidelstift , a supply house for old people, goes back to him.

His hometown Wiesbaden honored the benefactor by naming Kreidelstrasse in the north-east district .

His publishing house was gradually handed over to Joseph Friedrich Bergmann and continued in his JF Bergmann Verlag.
