history

The village was created by the merger of the two villages Turnu and Ruieni .

The village of Turnu was first mentioned in a document in 1462. The name comes from the tower of Ovid (Turnu = tower), a medieval tower on the village area, the remains of which can still be seen today.

Ruieni first appears in documents with the Hungarian place name Pokolfalu in 1458 . From the 17th century the place appears under the name Rien , then Rüeni , Rujen , Ruyeni and Rejeni in the contemporary documents.

The place Ruen is entered on the Josephine land survey of 1717 . After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) the village was part of the Habsburg crown domain Temescher Banat . The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts , whereby Turnu Ruieni fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
